Oh, did I mention that we're hosting 14 adults (and a bunch of kids) for dinner tomorrow night? Yeah, I'm crazy. Bleh.

Ugh, I hope you have surprisingly good news to tell (some of) them at dinner. I know you don't think it's likely, so I'll respect that and just sit here quietly and wait with you for the results.
I'm so sorry. I hope today's appointment bring results that are clear, one way or the other. Of course I hope the news is surprisingly good, but if you cannot continue being cautiously happy, I hope you can at least proceed as previously planned with little uncertainty.
You are lovely to be hosting so many people. May they, depending upon the situation, add to your joy or give you comfort in any unhappiness, rather than augment any anxiety or deepen any grief.
I'll hold out faith for you, if you like.
